Overview of Geo.Geo

Our world is changing faster now than at any other time in recorded history due to increasing impacts occurring both naturally and through human interaction. With great change, comes a great responsibility to monitor and understand these changes, and to do so with citizens at its heart.
— Paul Georgie, Geo.Geo Founder & Director

Geo.Geo is a geospatial technology company which supports and advocates the widespread adoption of state-of-the-art mapping tools.

We empower governments, businesses and communities to understand the benefits of 'thinking spatially' and coming together under 'one geography'.

Teach, build and fly: three pillars from which our mission to offer holistic mapping expertise derives.

Our teams brings together a unique blend of geographers & international development experts, alongside geographic information scientists, remote sensing analysts, surveyors and web developers.

Teach.

promoting 21st century geography globally.

At the core of our mission is our remit to build local capacity of local communities, governments and organisations helping our transition to a sustainable, resilient world.  To help them learn and adopt modern mapping tools and technologies and upscale it use within a development and resilience context.

Our award winning community mapping programme was designed in the heart of East Africa over a number years before being rolled out back in Scotland, teaching local residents to take ownership over their local geographies and bolster the availability of open data - which is vital to support locally important and creative map making!

Our capacity building work aims to lower the barriers of access for everyone to feel the benefits of utilising geographic information sciences (GIS) and "thinking spatially".  GeoGeo empowers local communities to learn and adopt an increasingly wide range of freely available and open source mapping tools into their projects and programmes.

Our Three Pillars of 21st Century Geography

Our Three Pillars of 21st Century Geography

Modern mapping is all about learning to record the things that matter most to your community and environment.  Once we understand WHAT you want to map, we teach you the HOW.

Modern mapping all come down to three pillars (see figure, right):

  • the technology to capture and sense data,
  • hardware to record it and
  • software to digitise, analyse and visualise turn your knowledge into actionable information and maps.

If your community has something to shout about and map, why not get in touch with us for a free consultation today!

Case Study: Climate Resilience Mapping in Scotland

Find out how community members in the Carse of Gowrie are using community mapping to help identify climate change impacts and plan for the future.

In early 2013, GeoGeo worked in partnership with Sniffer and Adaptation Scotland to help a sustainability group from the Carse of Gowrie, a series of low-lying communities situated between Perth and Dundee in Scotland.

The project ran from February to April with the aim of identifying key issues affecting their local environment. Nearly 11,000 local features were digitised on OpenStreetMap during theses weeks, with local residents learning QGIS to create their own maps relating to local flood risk, heritage, tourism and conservation.

Build.

Our aim is to develop innovative solutions that help to make a positive difference in the world.

By utilising open source geospatial technology, we can design and deliver cutting edge web and mobile applications at a fraction of the cost compared to our proprietary rivals whilst also helping contribute to the wider open source community.

Our mission is to support our transition towards sustainable, low carbon and inclusive societies.

We design solutions empower us to become increasingly informed, connected and self reliant.  Over the years, we have contributed to a host of development sectors, including public health, natural resource management, rural development and smart cities.  In every solution, we advocate the role of citizens as 'partners', not just as users, across a plethora of issues, including health, transport, energy and disaster response.

modern mapping can applications drive Solutions To Human And Environmental Challenges

We play an active role within the open source geospatial community as we set out to deliver state-of-the-art mapping applications to help our clients capture, analyse and visualise geographic information in new, exciting ways.  We offer scalable, design-focused, cloud-based solutions which are underpinned by a practical understanding of working within a number of sectors.

Our solutions team (including designers, consultants, social scientists and software engineers) offer a very unique and broad range of professional web and mobile development services that help governments, organisations and communities adopt modern mapping, including:

  • Scoping out functional needs and technical solutions for clients;

  • Creation of Web and Mobile GIS applications and solutions;

  • Management and visualisation of spatial datasets;

  • Developing workfows and systems integration with GIS;

  • Providing GIS support and strategic consulting.

Welcome to The Future Of Aerial Surveying & Mapping

Utilising the latest Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) to survey our built and natural environments represents a flexible, low cost approach for attaining high resolution 2D and 3D imagery. GeoGeo is Scotland's pioneering provider of UAS aerial imagery services, currently enabling early adoption in a host of sectors including smart cities, agriculture, archaeology, forestry, renewable energy and tourism (to name just a handful!).

Since 2014, GeoGeo has been pioneering a revolutionary approach for capturing high resolution imagery using Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).  We set the bar for their role within geospatial applications, holding the honour of the UK's first CAA approved fixed wing team permitted to operate over live highways and within cities.

Our aim to dramatically lower the barriers for data professionals and communities alike to access near real time imagery and (geo)data products.  We survey, process, analysis and manage massive point clouds and in turn create valuable 2D/3D data products which can be used within a wide range of desktop and web-based GIS, BIM and CAD environments...and in game worlds and VR but more about that later this year!

Why use our Drone services?

Affordable

Compared to alternatives such as satellites, manned aerial photography or ground-based terrestrial sensors (i.e. vehicle mounted or handheld), we provide a timely, agile and low cost way of collecting high resolution 2D and 3D imagery.

Accurate & Timely

With an accuracy under 3cm, we're 5 times more accurate than traditional imagery from aircraft and satellites.  What's more, we fly under the clouds to provide our client with near real time understanding of the environments.

Safe

Our fully certified & approved pilots are helping to make public disruption and surveying in dangerous environments a thing of the past! Flying at 400 feet allows us to map and survey the world below without the need to disturb it.

There are so many drone companies now but Geo.Geo definitely stand out when it comes to their geospatial application. Definitely a company to watch and, like the rest of the data world, we’re excited to see the launch of Alba3D!

new detail, new opportunities

At Geo.Geo, we advocate that drones are 'democratising earth observation' - providing incredible imagery into the hands of the many.  As the pioneers of this technology, we've been engaging and enthusing a variety of sectors, supporting organisations to become 'early adopters' in their own rights, including (i) Heritage & Tourism; (ii) Forestry & Agriculture; (iii) Emergency Response; (iv) Construction & Engineering; (v) Mining & Aggregates

If you'd like to become an early adopter in your industry, please get in touch for a free consultation today!

Alba3D: engineering urban intelligence

As well as providing bespoke aerial surveying services, our airborne geographers have been busy mapping Scotland's seven cities. We've been developing our data platform known as Alba3D to help promote widespread access and adoption of city point clouds and associated data products.

If you'd like to stay up-to-date with our Alba3D project, sign up today and learn how you can become an early adopter!
